Dangers of Damaged Sewer Inlets
Leaving parking lot sewer inlets in disrepair, will not only accelerate the deterioration and become more costly to replace, but it will also continue to be a hazardous situation for unsuspecting cars and trucks especially during the night.
Riser Ring Installation
Parking lots which may have been repaved in the past, may have caused existing sewer inlets to sit lower in the asphalt, causing cars, trucks and trailers to now scrape and gauge the surface. If this is the case, Topps can installs riser rings under the new inlet to raise it up to avoid gauges while still draining the parking lot.
Sewer Inlet Removal
After removing the old sewer inlet, there is more work that needs to be done before installing the new concrete sewer inlet. This involves repairing the manhole by installing new bricks, adding mortar to old bricks and leveling the area to accept the new inlet. This process takes years of experience to ensure a safe and long lasting installation of your new sewer inlet.
Sewer Inlet initial Prep
It is critical before installing the new inlet that all the prep work was done correctly, below. This precast concrete inlet is called a Four Grate Stone. Four 30″ x 15″ metal grates will be set on top of the angle iron, which is anchored into the concrete. Rebar is also installed into the concrete for strength and long lasting durability.
Sewer Inlet Final Preparation
Final preparation is done around the new concrete sewer inlet, to level and check the drainage into the sewer before final installation. New concrete is installed around the inlet to connect the road or parking lot to the sewer.
New Sewer Grate Inlets
New grates are installed and in this case, we were able to reuse two ductile iron grates while installing two new ductile iron grates. Ductile iron grates are heavy duty grates used in areas for trash trucks and semi traffic. I chose Topps after researching 4 other sealers in the area. I chose Topps because they sounded the most knowledgable about the process and didn’t skimp on quality. Many others water down the the sealer, or will claim one thing and provide another. Topps, was a little more expensive than others, however, they were the only ones that agreed with the type of application I was looking for.
if you get your asphalt sealed, always insist on the use of SealMaster, make sure they add silica sand and Poly Alt 604. The wear and traction from Topps is the best with this combination!…. Also, DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT drive or walk on the driveway for at LEAST 48 hours. I recommend 3-4 days. The extra wait is totally worth it!
At the end of the day, Topps was outstanding. There was a little miscommunication where I wasn’t aware that they were coming, and immediately, they reached out and resolved the issue in a very professional manor.
Since my driveway was sealed I have already had 3 neighbors come to me asking who I used. They all explained that they used another (shall I say “less expensive’) service, and regretted it.
